Landmark Gospel Church is here to help you find the Way, the Truth and the Life!  His Name is Jesus!

What is the purpose of a landmark? A landmark can be a recognizable feature on the landscape or an object used to define a boundary.  Landmarks serve a number of purposes.  They let you know where you are in relationship to your surroundings.  They can help you find your way if you are lost.  Sometimes they outline the outer limits of a piece of property.  They also can serve as memorials, places to remind us of what has happened in the past.

The Scriptures speak of landmarks and memorials in several places.  In many cases, the message was to warn God’s people not to remove the ancient landmarks.  These landmarks were critical to defining the outer boundaries of one’s inheritance or sometimes they were memorials built in honor of a miracle that God had performed for them.  For example, heaps of stone were placed in and next to the Jordan River when the Israelites had crossed on dry ground into Canaan on their way to Jericho.  Why?

“And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones? Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over: That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.” (Joshua 4:21-24)

It is important that we have visual reminders of God’ Providence and presence in our lives.  These, “landmarks” help us to see where we are in relationship to God’s Plan. They help us find our way through life, keeping us on the path of Life, and they help us not to forget what God has done in our lives.
